Thought we’d stay just a little while So after all this time I can’t help but smile Planned to hang around a couple years at most Then light for either coast Something happened I could not have foreseen My eyes opened and this town began to grow on me My shoes grew roots slowly by degree And in the end I fell in love with Bloomington, IN Yes I fell in love with Bloomington, IN All along the B-line trail See so many faces I know it never fails Late night on the courthouse square Maybe grab a bite, I’ll meet you there I never imagined I would settle in this place But somehow I’ve fallen into its welcoming embrace An unlikely refuge from the never-ending chase So once again I’m in love with Bloomington, IN Yes I’m in love with Bloomington, IN My mind’s at peace when I walk the open streets Or circle ‘round the fields of Bryan Park My heart’s at ease in the Indiana breeze As the leaves begin to turn and fall Now this town is the place that I call home No longer restless no more need to roam Finally at rest and not alone I’m glad to spend My time in Bloomington, IN I love you Bloomington, IN Yes I fell in love with Bloomington, IN

Bryan Park 02:42
Walking around Bryan Park One last time before it gets dark There go the daddies With kids on their shoulders Moms jogging with babies in strollers There’s a guy with a telescope Couple kids walking On a slack line tight rope Bunch of dudes playing Hoops on the black top Man with dreads selling Rasta Pops Looking so fine in her greenery Can’t help but admiring the scenery At Bryan Park Hoola hoop girls swiveling their hips Kids at the pool going for a dip Team doing battle at ultimate frisbee Dogs circling each other Getting tangled and twisty Lovers stealing kisses ‘Neath a shady tree Music in the park Sunday night for free Little Leaguers circling the bases Spend a little time there And you’ll recognize the faces Chorus When there’s snow on the ground We slide on down When snow melts away Once again it’s time to play

College Town 02:30
B-L-O-O-M-I-N-G-T-O-N Come on down to our C-O-L-L-E-G-E-T-O-W-N College town Way back in the hills of Southern Indiana Is a town that swings like the Copacabana We dig our basketball at Assembly Hall Get a b-ball fix from a corner booth at Nicks From the Limestone fest to the Little 5 Bloomington, IN’s a great place to be alive Maybe catch a show at the Buskirk Chum Enjoy a Blueboy treat when the day is done Chorus You can take a stroll down the B-Line Trail Later hit the Lion for a tasty cocktail Take a tour of campus through the Sample Gates What are you waiting for there’s no need to hesitate Bryan Park’s a great place to see and be seen So’s the Bishop and the Bluebird And everything in between If you wanna get up on the Btown scene You can read all about it in Bloom Magazine Chorus We got doctors and dancers And teachers and musicians Celebrated chefs getting busy in the kitchen Every single autumn comes the Lotus Fest We don’t like to brag but we truly feel blessed to live in Chorus
4.
In a place called Bloomington In the rain and in the sun Way up high on a great big pole Is a creature that we like to call The fish on the dome Watching over us all wherever we roam Look up there and you’ll see him The fish on the dome The fish on the dome Many years ago A prehistoric shallow sea Covered up the land maybe That’s how the fish came to be Or more likely he Swam in from far away Took up his lofty perch Now he’s here to stay Chorus Late at night when everybody’s sleeping The fish on the dome is busy dreaming ‘Bout the rivers lakes and oceans He’d love to explore Then he wakes and remembers What he crawled up the shore for Chorus
5.
So smooth and cool to the touch At first glance it might not look like much Just a rock from a hole in the ground Local quarry in a small town But nothing could be further from the truth This state stone is proof Indiana Limestone Straight from Bedford Indiana Limestone Helped rebuild after the Great Chicago Fire Raised up the Empire State Worth its weight In calcium carbonate Graces the faces of so many buildings In this town of ours Though the miners have Laid to rest the quarry yards Best known today from Breaking Away Not much left to say Yet all around us the stone goes on It’ll still be here when we’re gone Chorus You can chip and chisel it down You can make it angular or round You can bury it back underground Just never forget That we owe a debt Chorus
6.
The sun scratched away At the gloom through the haze That gave way to reveal the true Blue of a sky that defied the eye And went straight to the brain As I made my way By the end of the day No more debts to pay Yet no way to dissolve the glue That binds and confines us And tries to spellbind us As we walk along Kirkwood Avenue They say seasick sailors Sang lovesick songs For lovers who’d faded from view When I’m feeling lost Star-crossed tempest tossed Bones cold covered in frost My heart is embossed With loneliness I can’t undo I step outside to embrace the High tide coming through On Kirkwood Avenue The old courthouse throws a shadow Carelessly down to the ground Where I pick it up turn it around Now I’m of a mind to take some time To think things through Speak without sound Still casting around For a burial mound Or a ship run aground To lay down what I’ve found to be untrue Time is so blind no it can’t see From my point of view On Kirkwood Avenue

Lake Monroe 02:56
I took a boat to the middle of Lake Monroe When the wind began to blow I raised a sail to meet the breeze Now I’m no sailor but I know a thing or two About the high tides of the heart And current coming through Please please please if you find me Washed up on the beach don’t throw me back I’m just trying to reach beyond the reeds Waters weeping out on Lake Monroe Houseboats moving slow Gliding through the gloom into a cove I took one final sip and saw my rations running low So I dove Overhead the sky was an ocean of dust Down below the bed was a ruptured crust On either side the pines bent forward to listen in In my veins the blood struggled back To once again begin Down in my boat out somewhere on Lake Monroe I clutched the oars with no hope of letting go The wind had given notice and quit and hour before The only way to reach the shore Was through the motion of the oars Please please please when you find me Drifting with the wind throw me a rope So I may find my way back home So I may find my way back home So I may find my way back home

Once when I was walking Down the B-Line Trail I heard a little voice inside me That said to look behind me That’s when I saw her And my heart began to sail Up into the stratosphere I had to tell her how I feel I was so bold I took Her little hand in mine She said “My name’s Florita” I said “I’m pleased to meet ya” I look into her eyes and Asked her if she’d be so kind To take a stroll with me Down along the B-Line We kept walking till the Sun began to set I said I liked her smile And we talked for quite a while I kissed her by the Showers building I was in her debt For returning my affection Even though we’d just met Today we’re oh so fine And I’m glad I availed Myself of her company I love her abundantly I know our happiness Will never grow stale That’s the story of how we found Love along the B-Line Trail

Sample Gates 02:01
I’m just standing ‘round Waiting by the Sample Gates Said you’d meet at 7 But you’re running late Check the time but it does no good It’s already quarter to eight I’m stuck here waiting for you By the Sample Gates Well maybe you’re hiding In the shadows in Dunn’s Woods Or running ‘round the IMU Up to no good I’ve checked every floor in Ballentine You’re breaking my heart And don’t seem to mind But I won’t hold it against you Even though I should I checked Ashton, Eigenmann Teter Wright and Briscoe McNutt Collins Foster Forest Read and finally Rose I never got you to show Back where I started Lonely by the Sample Gates No more tears to shed I’m resigned to my fate But now who’s that Coming down Kirkwood Ave My heart begins to race You finally appear to meet me At the Sample Gates I guess I had the wrong time Or maybe you got lost I really don’t care Because you’re finally here

Once there was a man in red Who taught our boys to play the sacred game Focused on fundamentals And playing the right way He was a man of sharp emotion Did not shy away from letting it be known While winning may not be everything Losing cut him to the bone Three times he climbed the mountain And reigned over all that he surveyed But when he came down And lost the luster off his crown We hardened our hearts Against the man in red Bobby K He threw a chair across the court To express his discontent He wished to be buried upside down To show his critics the extent Of his disdain for them And anyone who dared to speak his name Without a proper measure of respect And recognition of his fame He was a man of stature so imposing But a child in the way that he behaved So when it was divined to Remove him from the sideline We rued the day and sang a sad lament for Bobby K One day he disappeared Where he went to nobody knows Some say he ended up in Texas Working the rodeo I’ve heard it said he might be dead But in my bones I know it isn’t so If you listen close You can hear calling from the radio The legend will long outlive the man As long as there are those who bow and pray To the idol of defiance that he built to blind us To the sins and sorrows of the man in red Bobby K

about

Jeremy Shere Bloomington, Indiana

I've been writing songs for more than 20 years, trying my best to make them fun, catchy, memorable, and meaningful.

I know I may never reach the heights of my songwriting heroes--The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Gordon Lightfoot, Fountains of Wayne, Elvis Costello, and Jack White, to name only a few--but I keep trying. Thanks for checking out my online home, and I hope you enjoy the tunes.
